August 28, 2006 | Just me and L | Sony T5

On Saturday evening, my parents celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary with about seventy of their closest friends and family. It was a perfect night. L attempted to stay awake until the very end, determined to sing the Canadian National anthem, but she crashed before midnight. After two late nights in a row, I felt very much how she looks here.
My talented sister wrote our combined speech - a thirty verse poem, summarizing my parents 45 years together. Here's the last three verses:

Our parents taught us to be
Strong, independent women
To go forth in this world
And make our own sweet living

They let us make our choices
Some bad and some good
They provided all the guidelines
Just what parents should

On your 45th anniversary
What we want to say the most
Is we love you and respect you
And to both of you we toast.

Cheers Mum and Dad! I love you.
